It was about the time I was doing my second fuel fill-up of the Ford F-150 King Ranch 4X4 that I realized what this big truck is truly about. It’s not about sensible things -- like optimal fuel economy, luxury conveniences or even about safety and security.

No, the Ford F-150 is all about DogCar functionality, pure and simple.

Got big loads to haul on a daily basis? This is your truck.

Transporting pups over rough terrain for field training? No problem. It will carry big loads -- including multiple large-size puppy crates -- securely and without worry. There are plenty of tie-downs in the bed to secure any cargo, and the rearview camera increases visibility of those hard-to-see areas while backing up.

For indoor riding, the F-150 King Ranch features a full-size back seat, with more room than many full-size sedans, providing ample space for pups to ride in warmth and comfort. The leather seats make it an easy mud wipe-up and the ventilation is plentiful, with or without the large rear windows open.

A step up the running board of the F-150 and you are greeted with a near bird’s-eye view of the road. You feel that you have suddenly joined the long-haul trucker category, ready to rule the interstate with size and power.

As a true dog-lover’s truck, the Ford F-150 ranks above and beyond the rest of the field.

Carguy Comments: The 2007 Ford F-150 comes in three cab configurations: the Regular Cab (seats 3), Super Cab (5/6) and SuperCrew Cab (5/6) featuring three different V-8 engines and either two-wheel or four-wheel drive. The rear cargo bed varies in size with each configuration, maxing out at 97.4 inches in length. The massive 30-gallon fuel tank is a plus considering the mileage is less than 20 mpg in freeway driving.

Barking Lot Banter: It’s no wonder that the Ford F-150 pickup has been America’s best-selling full-size truck for 30 years. The ranch hands at Ford know how to build a good, honest DogCar truck that not only hauls the hounds and hay, but delivers passengers in luxury and comfort.

My cousin recently got a white one of these trucks. It does look pretty good I guess. They havee a lab and a dachshund but they never take them in the car unless they’re going to the vet.

My F150 Supercrew is great for carring 2 dogs in the back seat as the seats fold up if they want to lay down on the floor. If they want to ride & look out the window 1 seat can be folded up & the other left down. The rear sliding window is great also.

Giddiyap.
A pickup is the best dog carrier as long as your pooches are safely secured in a tied down dog crate on the bed. Mine love to ride their F-150. The dog crates never leave the bed since I don’t want to hassle with putting them on and off. A tarp to cover the crates when it rains. Make sure you park in the shade when it’s hot and sunny.
